About BANDUNG DAILY PHOTO

Inspired by other cities' photo dailies, this blog is trying to capture - in photos and stories - what's going on in Bandung on the daily basis.

There is no pretension that what I post here could represent a city as big and as complex as Bandung. However, I hope that as the collection of photos and stories grow with the daily updates, a more comprehensive picture of the city will begin to emerge and that you will learn about Bandung (and hopefully love it) not only as a place on the map, but also as a living community with its own unique characteristics and stories to share.

Whatever the story or the picture is, I hope my voice will make a difference.

With a large and growing numbers of photographs, insightful commentaries, and daily updates, Bandung Daily Photo is arguably the most comprehensive, dynamic, and authoritative source of day to today stories and photos of Bandung and its vicinities.

The Blooming Flamboyant

This flowering tree is called by many different names in different places, e.g. Royal Poinciana, Krishnachura, Gulmohar, Peacock Flower, Flame of the Forest, Malinche, and Tabachine. In Indonesia, it is called "flamboyan" or "bunga flamboyan" (delonix regia). Here it normally blooms between September and October during the seasonal change from the dry season to the rainy season.

Flamboyant is originally from Madagascar. More information about this flower can be found here.

I took these photos at Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Jawa Barat plaza sometime ago.

I've never seen such a tree. I would definitely walk out of my way to catch a glimpse of it each day it was blooming. Thank you for showing it to us.

Such a lovely tree, the colour of the blossom is fantastic. This is my first 'visit' to Bandung; I have enjoyed looking through your photos.

Indeed this is a beautiful tree when in flower. The fiery red flowers must have inspired people to call it 'flame of the forest'. They look splendid in parks.
